Last year, I began having monthly conversations with my Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Antonio Aragona. Each month, we engage in a deep dive discussion on the wisdom of Ayurveda as “The Science of Life.” The ancient Indian school of medicine, healing, and embodiment has survived and evolved beyond the limitations of western, colonial capitalism medicine.

In this conversation with Dr. Antonio Aragona, AD, we discuss the transformative potential of Ayurveda and consciousness in the pursuit of healthcare justice.

I have been working with Dr. Antonio Aragona since December 2021. I came to him after experiencing chronic fatigue, exhaustion, weight that I couldn’t loose, and a tremor in my right hand. I was also depressed a year after taking my 4-month Soul-Battical. I knew that the way I was “over-working” even if I was “my own boss” as an entrepreneur, and after 4 months of not working, was not really living.

Through his care and practice, I have connected my embodied trauma healing rituals and practices to address the intersections of mental, spiritual and physical health. I have been on a search for deep medicine practices and holistic healthcare that viewed my body as the vessel holding my intersectional experience. This meant that I was looking for healthcare that would recognize the alignment of my body with nature and spirit.

My cough was unmetabolized grief.

My joints ache and pain flares up when I don’t respect my own boundaries, and people pleasing makes me sick and inflamed.

In the last two years, I’ve had two bouts with Covid, including long covid resulting in chronic fatigue, debilitating brain fog, amenorrhea (the loss of a menstrual cycle), short-term memory loss, chronic cough, joint inflammation, arthritis, frozen shoulder, and a recent pregnancy loss.

Working with the wisdom of Ayurveda has changed my life and how I relate to change and crisis.

Dr. Antonio and I have been on a care journey that I can only describe as revolutionary.

As a wisdom worker who seeks guidance from healing justice lineages of precolonial wisdom keepers and healers, I find clarity in chaos by rooting in what was known before our bodies were forced to forget.

In this episode in our Trust Your Gut conversation series, we discuss the following:

  1. Spirit guides and teachers who can connect without depleting themselves with energetic boundaries

  2. Embodiment, self-awareness, and connecting with inner truth

  3. Trusting our gut instincts through Ayurvedic principles

  4. Being embodied and holding energetic boundaries

  5. Spiritual Care and Lineages of Wisdom and Healing Justice

As we launch Freedom Summer School focusing on the spiritual and historical guidance of Fannie Lou Hamer’s life, we the lessons that Fannie Lou Hamer can teach us about placing Black women in the center of care, connecting with ancestors and spirit guides as a source of inner power and self-trust in the face of medical gaslighting.

Join us live when Dr. Antonio Aragona for our next talk on Wednesday, July 17 at 9:30am EDT.
